NSWSDPA Membership Renewals for 2021-22
In ordinary times, membership of the NSW Secondary Deputy Principals Association (NSWSDPA) runs from the beginning of one annual conference (late term 3) to the beginning of the next. Membership payments have historically been included in the annual state conference fee.
Given the evolving situation due to COVID, the association has been unable to hold a conference since 2019 so members have had to join and renew via the Membership page on the Association website. The 2022 State Conference, planned for August 24 - 26 at Terrigal is eagerly anticipated by members.
With ongoing but gradually easing COVID-19 restrictions, membership payments for the 2021-22 membership year need to be made via the Membership page of the Association website: Membership (nswsdpa.asn.au)..
ROLE OF THE ASSOCIATION
The Association will continue to provide targeted Professional Learning opportunities at local, regional, and state level. We look forward to the State Conference at Tamworth in Term 3 next year.
Financial support will be provided to regions that are able to organise mini-conferences in Term 4 of this year or Term 1, 2022.
As part of its response to emerging challenges, the Association is looking at ways to introduce a number of on-line initiatives to support members, including access to on-line Professional Learning opportunities and access to professional journals and publications through its new Teams platform
The Association is working towards running both an Aspiring DP PL Day and a general PL Day in Term 1, 2022.
The Association supports DP wellbeing via one-on-one support and by providing advice should you find yourself in a “sticky” situation. Wellbeing support, including casual relief, is available to members and their schools when impacted by traumatic events.
The Evelyn Hazzard Award is offered each year by the Association to recognise the contribution made by Deputy Principals to leadership, excellence and innovation in NSW public secondary schools. This award, which is valued at $4,000, commemorates the contribution to public education and to the Association by Evelyn Hazzard, who was President of the Association in 2014 when she sadly passed away from breast cancer.
The Association will continue to represent the interests and views of Deputy Principals to the Department and its senior officers. Due to these representations in the past, as one example, DP's have progressively started receiving a broader range of communications which would usually be reserved for principals. This has included vital update information in relation to COVID-19.
Since late 2014, the Association has promoted and facilitated collegial discussion and support among secondary Deputy Principals through its email distribution list, @DPCONNECT. We have introduced a specially designed MS Team to replace the email list. This initiative is far more interactive, responsive and supportive for DPs. Please see below for more details.
MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL PROCESS
Please follow this link Membership (nswsdpa.asn.au) to renew your membership. You should select your employment/appointment type and select the appropriate number of terms to take you to the end of term 3, 2022.
You may use either your school P-card or your personal credit card to make payment.
If you use the school P-card then the membership “belongs” to the school and may be transferred to someone who relieves in your position for longer than one school term or to someone who substantively replaces you.
If you are a substantively appointed DP (either Centrally allocated or ACIP) who is temporarily appointed to another role within the department (eg Curriculum Adviser etc) then you are still eligible for membership. In this circumstance, you may need to use your personal credit card to pay and then claim it in your tax. Discuss this with your line manager.
INTRODUCTION OF MS TEAMS & CLOSURE OF @DPCONNECT
As members renew (or join) they will be added to the NSWSDPA MS Team. At the beginning of Term 4, 2021 this team replaced the email distribution list @DPCONNECT, which has been shut down. All messages posted to @DPCONNECT since it started in late 2014 have been archived and are available to read in the MS Team. Unfortunately, resources that have been shared will not be available as it is not possible to archive them.
The NSWSDPA MS Team has various channels to support members to seek assistance and resources, to contribute to each other’s wellbeing and to generally support professional learning and effective leadership and management in NSW public secondary schools.
The channels have been developed to reflect the range of discussions that took place in @DPCONNECT. It is possible to add more channels as required.
Protocols for use and “how to” videos have been developed. Please check out these resources in the General Channel of the new Team when you are added.
